The tree remains, and so does the key.
Mandarin orchestral direction · erhu theme, guzheng and late suona colour
The child once played beneath the tree. On returning, it still stands, but nobody opens the door. The narrator keeps the key. Place and people move at different speeds; the words do not require invented deaths or demolition to deepen their feeling.
At 72 BPM, the Mandarin orchestral direction returns to an erhu theme, with pipa between phrases, guzheng, dizi and pentatonic strings. Kit and frame drum support the chorus; late suona flourishes offer another, more distant look back.
