The salt remains. So do we.
Mandarin · acoustic duet direction · Yunnan mountain-road colour · 80 BPM
The male verses set out along a road made by the father; the female verses count its bends from the other side of the mountain. Travelling and waiting happen together: stones underfoot grow brighter, while food stays warm at home.
Walk a while, rest a while: the refrain does not hurry to shorten the road. With salt to carry and people still here, there is a reason to go on. The bridge’s repeated journeys there and back give a lifetime of work its own shape.
The creative direction calls for a warm acoustic male–female duet at 80 BPM. Hulusi, bamboo flute, plucked strings, hand drum and strings lend Yunnan and Tea-Horse-Road colouring. A rising-and-falling four-note motif leaves the simple refrain room to be sung together.
