[Verse 1]
They told me sing it plain and clean
and I did for a while

[Chorus]
But oh — the note wants somewhere else
oh — it wants to climb
and I follow it, I follow it
and I am out of time

[Verse 2]
Miss Alden at the organ
did not know where I'd gone
but she held the chord a bar too long
and let me carry on
