Mandarin march direction · brass, male voice and lyrical choir
The old poem’s abundant lotus leaves and fish darting east, west, south and north become a call across a morning march. The words travel away from Jiangnan, then place a mother before distant glory. Strong steps and domestic tenderness coexist; this is not presented as an account of a particular battle.
The 132 BPM, 2/4 march direction drives male lead and answering choir with snare, bass drum, tuba and brass. Woodwinds and strings bring the middle passage closer to home. Follow the four-way calls into open space, then return to rice and lamplight.
