Eight of Us and One Table

Take off the table legs, carry out the chairs, then argue about the shade. An intimate folk-choral song keeps a summer gathering in its small gestures.

Eight people, one table, an evening nobody has to make.

English · intimate folk choral · nylon guitar and upright bass · 62 BPM creative direction

The table will not fit through the doorway sideways: they tried that last year. This small, practical problem gives the gathering weight. The legs come off again, and eight people carry it into the yard.

Nobody takes charge in the refrain, and the verses do not hurry toward a climax. Chairs, a cloth and an argument about the shade open out into a long evening. No one has to manufacture the occasion; being together is enough.

The creative direction calls for 62 BPM, fingerpicked nylon guitar and upright bass, with a close-miked mixed choir that preserves breaths and separate voices within the blend. The small ensemble answers the different people sharing one table.
