The record keeps an evening after goodbye.

English lyrics · shidaiqu-inspired direction · foxtrot, muted brass and clarinet

The lyric gives only a few images: street lamps returning as before, someone dancing beyond a door and a blue outfit worn twice before being put away. After goodbye, the record still keeps that evening. A full plot is unnecessary when ordinary objects let time come close again.

The arrangement draws on shidaiqu colour and an 88 BPM foxtrot, trading muted trumpet and trombone melodies among clarinet, sighing violins, tenor banjo, upright bass and brushes. The words are English; warm mono and vinyl hiss are production ideas, not evidence of a historical archival recording.

[Verse 1] The lamps come on along the road the way they did before [Chorus] And somebody is always dancing on the other side of a door [Verse 2] I wore the blue one twice that year and then I put it by and the record kept the evening long after we said goodbye
