One dance remains; goodbye need not hurry.

Jazz big-band ballad direction · a dance hall and parting

Gloves go back on. The pair dance politely without meeting each other’s eyes, until a slight tightening of a hand provides the answer. No shared future does not erase this time together or reduce it entirely to loss.

The jazz big-band ballad brief imagines brushes, walking bass, muted trumpet and strings in the warmth of an older dance hall. The lyric counts breaths rather than beats. When the final note settles, each person can carry the memory toward morning.

[Outro] (strings resolve, room fades)
