Fast-forward, pause, rewind to that rainy night. Creative direction: synthwave · 1980s imagery · a Mandarin night songWhat do these music words mean? ↓
Lights seen from above eventually narrow to a taxi in the rain and someone asleep nearby. The city becomes small. The bridge borrows a cassette’s controls to hold a moment when the neon still shines and the person is still there.
Synthwave is the key word in this brief: a synthesizer-centred retro-futuristic direction looking toward 1980s electronic sounds and screen music, not all electronic music. Listen separately for sustained layers, repeated patterns and pulse, then bring the night scene back together.
Think of synthwave as a synthesizer-led, retro-futuristic look toward the 1980s, not simply a neon cover. Find sustained layers, repeating patterns and pulse: listening clues, not a pre-certified instrument list.
Synthwave · a retro-futuristic electronic sound · a little more Synthwave is a contemporary electronic style looking back to 1980s sounds and screen music. Synthesizers generate and shape sound electronically. Neon and cassettes are familiar associations, not sufficient musical evidence. The label means neither all electronic music nor a recording actually made in the 1980s.
Try listening: Separate sustained layers, short repeating patterns and the beat, then ask how they build a night scene. This is a listening question, not a pre-certified sound identification.
Roland · Synthwave Essentials ↗ Texture · how parts fit together · a little more Texture is how musical parts combine. Notice what leads and what accompanies it, then how the space around a melody changes as parts enter or leave.
Carnegie Hall · Listen and Learn ↗ Read the lyrics [
(Synthwave，
