The tape has yellowed like a tea stain, and the corners of the certificate curl. The grown child thinks a twenty-year-old honour has expired; the mother asks how an award could ever do that. Their exchange is not about the size of an achievement, but who still holds it close.
Taking it down reveals clean white paint in precisely the certificate’s shape. Against newer, more valuable things never brought home, that blank patch makes years of care visible. Putting it back, perfectly straight, answers without having to say I understand.
The public creative direction calls for an intimate musical-theatre pit: grand piano, string quartet, clarinet, harp and double bass surround a conversational female voice and subtle shifts within the dialogue. A restrained 76 BPM walking feel with flexible rubato lets the emotional turn begin in an everyday sentence.
A school certificate stayed up for twenty years. When it came down, the pale patch on the fridge still held the shape of that day. We have earned more valuable things since growing up, yet our mother kept our earliest light safe.
