A light beyond reach can warm winter.
English Nordic joik-inspired folk direction · sustained voice and bowed strings
English words turn fire and light into warmth that need not be possessed, with song as a thread through memory. The living and the dead are lyric images, not evidence of a particular person’s bereavement.
The public brief draws inspiration from Nordic Sámi joik with Hardanger fiddle, soft frame drum and icy strings. The words are English, not Sámi; stylistic inspiration establishes neither ritual nor ethnic identity or an unaltered traditional source.

[Intro]
Under the northern fire...
[Verse 1]
Snow on the roof of the sleeping land
Light in the sky like an open hand
I do not call you by a name
I sing the shape of your flame
[Pre-Chorus]
Round and round the old road goes
Soft as breath above the snow
[Chorus]
Northern fire, carry me
Over the white and silent sea
If love is a light too far to hold
Let it warm the winter cold
[Instrumental Interlude]
[Verse 2]
Fiddle bends where the pine trees lean
Blue stars fall in the river green
I keep your shadow in my song
Not too high, but deep and long
[Bridge]
No wild drum, no sudden cry
Only a circle in the sky
Let the joik become a thread
Between the living and the dead
[Final Chorus]
Northern fire, carry me
Over the white and silent sea
If love is a light too far to hold
Let it warm the winter cold
[Outro]
Under the northern fire...
